For a show-stopping kitchen island, Black Titanium features sweeping veins of gold, white, and ivory cutting through a deep black canvas.

Granite generally offers greater heat tolerance than resin-based engineered quartz, but concentrated heat can still create thermal stress in natural stone. Sealing needs vary by the specific granite, finish, existing treatment, and absorption characteristics, so the surface should be evaluated rather than resealed on a fixed schedule. I generally like granite to be checked about once a year, but that does not mean every countertop automatically needs to be resealed on the same schedule.

I personally prefer our physical plastic template system for many jobs because it works well with our fabrication process. Customizing your edge profile shapes both the visual aesthetic and overall labor investment of your kitchen countertops:

• Flat Edge: This is still the standard choice for roughly 75% of our countertop work. With 3 cm material, it already gives the countertop a substantial, finished look. 
• Double Bullnose: This more decorative profile can add roughly 25% to 30% to that part of the work. 
• Mitered Edge: A miter lets us create the appearance of a much thicker countertop by joining pieces cut at 45 degrees. The additional fabrication can add around 50% to that part of the work. 
• Two-Sided Waterfall: A waterfall carries the countertop material vertically down the side of the island. On an average project, doing both sides can add roughly 30% to the overall project cost, depending on slab usage and whether another slab has to be purchased. 
• Material Selection: Not every slab behaves the same way when we cut and join it. I look at the actual material before recommending a miter or waterfall rather than assuming every natural stone will give us the same result.

Permit requirements depend on the project scope and the local jurisdiction. Perfect Stones maintains the licensing required for the counties where we perform this work. When a permit is required, we handle the application process in about 75% of our projects. In the remaining cases, the homeowner handles it based on the local county process. Permit costs can vary, but we commonly see them in the $105 to $350 range, and approval can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.

We also carry General Liability insurance and are bonded. For me, that is important because the homeowner should not have to worry about what happens if something unexpected occurs while our team is working at the property.

Our team serves homes within a 90-mile radius of Charleston, including Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head, Ridgeville, Summerville, Mount Pleasant, and Myrtle Beach. From historic downtown homes with uneven walls and floors to expansive plantation properties, we handle stone fabrication and can also coordinate related tile, painting, and permitting work when the project calls for it.

Kelly Chang’s outdoor kitchen looked straightforward at first, but the layout was exactly the kind of project where I do not like relying on rough measurements. The countertop covered about 47 square feet, but it included a long run, built-in cooking equipment, a customer-provided sink, and a 16 1/4-inch angled transition. One small mistake at that angle would have carried into the next section and changed where the seams landed farther down the kitchen.

We built the physical template directly over the installed cabinets so we could work from the real geometry of the space. The sink opening, the angle, and the long runs were all established before fabrication. Then we laid the pieces out digitally on one White Ice Premium granite slab and planned two seam locations before cutting. I would much rather decide those things at the template and layout stage than have an installer standing at the house trying to solve them after the stone is already fabricated. The whole 47-square-foot project fit onto one slab, which was another reason the planning mattered. Square footage alone does not tell you whether a complicated layout will fit. The actual shapes, angles, sink cutout, and seam positions determine that.

The main installation took place on August 14, 2025, and we returned on August 18 for the remaining finish work. The finished countertop looks simple, which is exactly what I want. The homeowner sees one clean outdoor kitchen. We see the template, the angled transition, two planned seams, and all the decisions that were made before the first piece of granite was cut.
