Browse Black Granite Slabs

Black countertops give a kitchen or bath a bold, timeless look with a touch of sophistication. Most black granite is not solid black. Many slabs show a black or charcoal background with gray, silver or gold flecks and veins, and every slab is different. These two colors from the black granite color family are in our granite colors and slabs catalog.

Black Pearl Leather Granite

Black Pearl usually shows a deep black to charcoal background with small silvery flecks that catch the light. The leathered finish gives a soft, textured surface with a low sheen. It suits a black and white kitchen with white or light-colored cabinetry, stainless appliances and a white tile backsplash.

Black Titanium Granite

Black Titanium usually shows a black background with bold white, gray and gold veining that swirls across the slab. It makes a luxurious statement on an island or a waterfall end and works well in a contemporary kitchen.

Availability changes, so we confirm your slab and finish before you order.

Compare the Actual Slab and Finish

On black granite, the finish changes the look as much as the color does.

  • Polished finish. A shiny, mirror-like polish deepens the black and shows off the flecks and veins. It can show fingerprints and water spots more easily.
  • Leathered finish. A textured surface with a soft sheen. It hides fingerprints and smudges better than polish.
  • Honed finish. A flat, matte surface for a quiet, modern look. Ask us which finishes are available for your color.

Lighting matters too. A dark countertop needs good lighting, so check the slab or sample in your own kitchen light. Before you order, we send photos of the actual slab, and you can ask us about a sample piece or seeing the slab in person. We can hold your slab free for two weeks, and a special-order slab takes about a month.

Pros and Cons of Black Granite Countertops

Pros

  • Bold, timeless look. Black granite pairs well with white cabinets, wood tones, brass hardware, neutral décor and most color palettes.
  • Durability. Granite is a hard, durable natural stone that suits busy kitchens, and it also works for an outdoor kitchen.
  • Good with heat. Granite is resistant to heat, though a trivet still protects the stone and the sealer.

Cons

  • Shows dust and spots. Polished black granite shows fingerprints, water spots and crumbs, so a leathered finish helps.
  • Needs light. A dark counter can make a small kitchen feel darker without good lighting.
  • Sealing. Dark granite has smaller pores than light granite, but it still needs sealing about once a year, or as the sealer label says.

Cons of Granite Countertops

Nothing is perfect. Here are the drawbacks to weigh.

  • Price. Granite sits in the mid to upper range among stone countertops. Our guide puts typical installation at about $60 to $140 per square foot, depending on the slab, finish and layout. See our granite countertop installation cost guide.
  • Care and maintenance. Granite is a natural stone, and most slabs benefit from a sealer. The schedule depends on the stone and the sealer, so follow the sealer's label and have the surface checked about once a year.
  • Installation. Granite slabs are heavy and need accurate templating and cutting, so we recommend you work with a professional.
  • Repairs. Repair options depend on the damage and the stone. Ask your installer before you try a fix yourself.

Weigh these trade-offs against the look and durability you want. Granite is a great option for many kitchens, but it is not right for every home.
